in Cutting tax
Can someone offer some advice on this for me please. I am a Full Time Student and i am employed PT on a yearly salary £8101.33 (though my contract is only for 6mths so technically be half that yrly salary i will gain) i only do 20hours a week.
Just got my 1st wage slip to find i have been taxed £128.20 of my wage and on a tax code of BRNONCUM also i am in NI D contributions - whats that when its at home as in previous employments a few yrs ago i wasnt in this banding on that?
Work had my P46 form prior to my wages being issued as well ...
Should i be paying tax being a student etc?
Any help would be appreciated on this

Students are taxed exactly like any other person , there are no specific exemptions for them.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Your tax code is incorrect... assuming you have only one job you should have a code of 647L and not BR (BR means all your income is charged at 20% tax with no tax free allowance)
How did you fill in the P46..which box did you tick?0 -
That it was my only job which it is
ill try and get hold of the tax office my employee is with and get sorted

As asked by CLAPTON what did you tick on your P46. It is possible that although you filled in you P46 before getting paid, the payroll dept. may not have had it before their cut-off time for running that payroll. Some monthly payroll depts. need all their data quite a while before the payroll is actually run.
Regarding your NI the D rate is paid by employees who are contracted out of the state second pension as their employer has a pension of their own, is this the case with yourself? If not you may be paying the wrong NI.0
