The only thing I would say to the members who say they have had an appliance years and would get any other same make is check that they are still the same as when you bought your original.
I used to work for a well known WM repair call center and the newer models were unreliable and no way near what people had bought 10-20 years before and thought they were replacing like with like.

Our experience is buying a Dyson was similar. I got one not long after they first came out. It was the best vaccuum I'd ever used and lasted 7 years. It's replacement lasted 2 years:mad: . Mr Spendless who works for a ball-bearing company was not impressed with the quality of the one that shot out of it, as it died on us.

We can only fit a slimline DW in our kitchen and I've had a problem with the door today, hopefully it can be fixed. Otherwise I'll also be looking for a new one.

Have to agree there ! We did buy another Dyson, but it is just not as well built as its predecessor, just about every bit of plastic is thinner than previously.

Dyson is a bit of a dirty word round here. A lot of locals used to work there until he upped sticks and moved production to Malaysia - just after the Queen visited his factory - bet he didn't tell her what he had planned !

Hi guys just to say that we were told not to spend out on one with a built in timer as they cost a good £100+ for just that function. But the guy in the shop (we didn't buy ours from him we bought on the internet) said buy a plug in timer switch and its sorted we have ours on economy 7 also and it works like a dream!!
I would also have a look inside them also some of them are very cheep looking inside and seem to have very rickety shelves.
I have a neff bottom of the range 12 piece setting and it does a family of 4's daily washing realy well.
    Good luck

  • Your local library will have Which? magazine where you can look up best buys. Which said that although Miele is pricier than many competitor brands it is firmly established as a byword for excellence, notching up Best Buys in virtually all home appliance tests where it features and also trounces the opposition as a brand people recommend that others buy, and its machines are reliable.

    Best buys include:

    Miele G 1220 SC
    Miele G 2040 U
    Bosch SGS55C02 Classixx

    For price comparisons try: http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/home-appliances/dishwashers/browse?sort=3&saved_products=0&search=miele&price_min=&price_max=&a_3717=&a_426=&a_2194=&a_427=&a_428=&a_429=&a_434=&a_2441=&autofilter=on

John Lewis does a free 5 year guarantee on 'selected' models (Ie: the more expensive ones) eg:
    http://www.johnlewis.com/Electrical/Dishwashers/Dishwashers/Dishwashers/230222270/Product.aspx (£499)

This one is a Miele and within your budget (just, it's £399) and has a 2 year guarantee:
    http://www.johnlewis.com/Electrical/Dishwashers/Dishwashers/Dishwashers/230306896/Product.aspx

It's a bit cheaper elsewhere though:
    http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/home-appliances/dishwashers/355676/prices

If I was buying one now though I would be tempted by the one [Bosch SGS55C02] McShaw linked to (above) - it's not a Miele, but it's still a Which? best buy and at £248 is almost half the price of a Miele (and Bosch has a good reputation too). For what it's worth my (rented) flat has a Zanussi dishwasher which is 10 years old and still going strong!

My inherited Bosch one finally died last year, it was quite old and had seen a lot of use. I replaced it with an A rated Zanussi as it was all the store had immediately available. It is rubbish at cleaning and regularly has to be put back on again, and in order to fit my plates in the bottom I have to have the top basket so high the glasses wont fit in the top, never a problem with the Bosch. It is my most regretted major purchase, and I just waiting for an excuse to buy a nice new Bosch classix.

Congrats on the pregnancy btw. Dishwasher is a big help when you have littles.
