What exactly is Pony Club?, the yard she loans at do a saturday morning pony club, I am guessing this is different to what your refering to, also my daughter dosn't want to ride or be in the equestrain industry workwise, it really is her relaxation and she has other plans for her working life so would it still be worth while?
Google Pony Club, it is the world largest youth membership organisation!
Basically they organise competitions, rallies, camps and training sessions. Most young people (up to 25 now, used to be 21) don't intend to have horses as anything but a hobby.
It instills good values, good horsemanship, is good fun and is THE best opportunity to compete even up to national level if you are good enough. If she has a horse on loan then she should go for it, I always wanted to be a member but back when I was young there wasn't much point if you didn't have your own.
The most famous pony club competition is the prince phillip cup, which is the national mounted games competition. This is old fashioned gymkana games, like bending and sack races etc essentially school sports day with horses, but they do show jumping, cross country, dressage, etc too.
Former members include, pippa funnell, william fox-pitt, prince charles (who left because it was full of girls) and princess anne.0 -
Here's my opinion about own horse. 14 is the peak of the teen horsey streak, and hen it hits hard it lasts to about 16/17. then suddenly girls who would never want anything else started selling their horses. Ofcourse, this coincides with exams/college too, where owning a horse is hard work. I wouldn't change anything about having horses as a teen, but neither would I push the issue about buying one then.
Thank you, I have thought about the exams thing, uni thing, boys thing as well, also I would have to make sure I can afford it without having to worry about it, this should be ok but I need her to understand the full commitment from both of us, I have made it clear to her that the time is not right just yet but I'm not saying no, however if she keeps on and on it will be a no:DThank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
