It may be free in terms of not having a financial charge attached, but it's not free in terms of staff time / sanity! Most companys that are using pre 2007 have installed Compatibility Pack free from MS.
As suggested, change your own format to .doc or .rtf - problem solved.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I usually say dear Mr or Ms(Cant assume their Mrs) then surnameNo you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -
Save it as pdf. Compatible with microsoft and non microsoft systems and less open to subsequent adjustment. Also a tip - if you are enclosing CV and you have Microsoft Office 2007, make sure that you save it in format readable by Microsoft Office 2000 etc. (it will be readable by ALL versions if you do that).
At our office and also my last job, we hate the 2007 version (years and years of experience of working with 2000 excel - hard to change) and also it's costly to change everyone over to new version, but people constantly keep sending us CVs in 2007 version which we cannot open.
We do have couple of PCs with 2007 on it so we do retrieve the CVs at the end, but not everyone might bother..Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Sorry - anyone who assumes I'm a Mrs get's a black mark right away...
Much safer with Ms0 -
Why all the problems when there's the perfectly acceptable option of "Ms"?
The idea of addressing someone you've never met by their first name is appalling and using both names is just plain wrong!0 -
Lots of women do not like Ms! Crazy but true!

Both names is fine and common practice.0 -

Dear Jane Smith? Definitely incorrect.0 -

It does sound wrong without a title but it is common practice.0 -

It sounds even worse with a title - "Dear Miss Jane Smith"!
People's use of English nowadays is of such a low standard that common practice means nothing when judging whether something's correct.0 -
Definitely with Oldernotwiser on this one - to use both names suggests a badly constructed computer programme!0
