My best leftover dish

Was a 4 day old bit of shepherds pie, already made with roast leftovers, the remains of a 3 meal takeaway indian treat, some veg/rice curry, madras and balti, together with the bag of onions and bits you get thrown on top.
Add in a spoonful of garam masala and a smoked sausage chopped into bits.
One of the best meals I have ever had, I ate so much I thought I was going to burst :o

My best leftover dish is reheated take out pizza for breakfast.

I've never been a big one for rejigging leftovers. I generally refridgerate them and serve them up as per the next day. Mind you - with my family leftovers never generally seem to be much of a problem ;)

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Car Insurance Carver! Xmas Saver!
my best one was after xmas day, when i'd scrounged all the bits my uncle would have just thrown away :D

cooked turkey, mixed roast veg, sausages cut up, boiled carrots and cauliflower (dont even usually eat cauli), with a mashed potato topping (leftovers)... the best bit was that i used leftover BREAD SAUCE as a sauce for this sort-of-shepards-pie. and it was totally amazing! (and i never liked bread sauce on the side.)

can't wait for xmas just to make this again! :j

  • My best leftover dish is made from Christmas lunch leftovers too.

Turkey or goose depending on which we have had.
Any leftover veg including roast potatoes
    A chopped onion

Fry it all in fat you have saved from the bird until beginning to crisp up.

Add leftover gravy, bread sauce and spoonful of fruit jelly (cranberry if turkey, quince or crab apple if goose)

    Serve piping hot. Yummy yum.

Works with any other roast too, but we only have enough leftovers to make it at Christmas 'cos I cook too much of everything (good job;))

Sunday Lunch soup - all the veg, stock/gravy, roasties, meat scraps from a roast dinner, processed a bit if I feel the urge and heated through - my favourite Monday lunch
  • You can't beat roast leftovers, whether they be Christmas Day or just a big old sunday roast. I love all the potatoes and veggies chopped up small and fried off, then served with leftover stuffing and a big dollop of cranberry sauce!

Thriftlady-just seen you add an onion. I'm liking that idea a lot!

I love doing meals based on throwing together odds and sods from the fridge - I find the results tend to be particularly tasty, probably because I know I'll never be able to recreate it!

Some of my best pasta dishes have come from this sort of clearing up exercise - I did one a while ago with sweet chilli sauce, tomatoes, spinach, ham and wensleydale cheese - sounds a bit of an odd combination but it was lovely!
Back after a very long break!

Bubble and squeak is fab or throw bits of leftover meat and veg into a omelette.

My mum (and now me) do a "scratch" tea where you just cook up loads of leftovers, fry up the leftover spuds, those 2 odd fish fingers and 4 chicken nuggets from the bottom of the freezer, those leftover peices of pizza etc etc all cooked up and put out on plates and you help yourself. Add some filler such as potatos/chips/rice/pasta and maybe a bit of gravy and of course plenty of bread and you get a yummy use it all up tea.

Do you mean you mixed this altogether to make one dish?

I don't think I could face them that way, personally!! I'd be more than happy to heat up the leftover shepherds pie and Indian takeaway separately and serve with the rice and a plate of sliced fried sausage and have a pick and mix type meal, but the prospect of mixing them all up together in one dish.....ooohhhh! I just couldn't!!

BTW OP are you male? Some of the the teenage boys I work with pile up their plates at meal-breaks with the "Oh well, it all goes down the same way idea!!!!!!!"

Leftovers from meals, I tend to eat as they are my lunch the next day, supplementing with bread or a bit of veg or salad, if there's not enough.
