Right, firstly i am new to this section so apologies if i dont do this correctly.
Basically earlier i brought some Tesco Sandwhich Chicken Slices.
We ate some for lunch and then whilst just making tomorrows packed lunches i noticed the date says Used By 15th September!!!! i was actually shocked and then started to feel sick purely for thinking that is over 10 days over the use by so hoping were not all ill tomorrow!!
Im unsure what to do, i did call the local shop which i brought it from and was offered a "refund" right now i am to angry to think thats acceptable (you might think im over reacting or being greedy) but a refund will not satisfy me. Im not usually a fussy customer but im shocked at how they can stock such out of date stuff let alone keep selling it. Ok so it isnt green and doesnt smell bad but a use by date is a use by date and im funny about things like that and stick to them.
Is there anything i can do, anyone higher up i can contact. An apologie would even be nice as the local branch made it seem like it was MY fauly for picking up an out of date packet. Should i just take the refund and be quiet ?
**Can i now add, no sign of the receipt.

I'd just take the refund - it was probably an odd one which escaped the net.
I doubt they were knowingly selling it to you.0 -
No no no no no. The OP must have compensation. They must have an apology. There must be much wailing and gnashing of teeth and rending of garments. They must have sack-cloth and ashes, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
On second thoughts, perhaps just the refund.0 -
Selling out of date food is a regular occurrence at this Store.
Normally i always date check but was in such a rush today and had my Grandmother with me so didnt have the time. The store was previously a Somerfield store. The supermarket chain pleaded guilty to five charges of breaching food labelling regulations and was fined £10,000. Somerfield store has been found guilty of selling food over a month beyond its use-by date.
I thought they would have stopped since 1, becoming/being taken over by tesco & 2, having a hefty fine. I will just settle for the refund then, hope we dont become ill and avoid shopping there in the future.Ask.. Believe.. Receive..

If it was really that bad, you'd have noticed by the appearance or smell the first time. Food can last well beyond the sell-by date sometimes.
There was a time before sell-by dates, and we seemed to get by fine.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
I am awful at binning 'out of date' produce and often wonder why I do it!
Does a slice of turkey wake up on the 29/09/2008 and say "jolly good I haven't been eaten and I am now off. I bin purely because the date tells me to:eek:. I am now not going to - well try not too:o.
However, to the OP I would accept the refund - mistakes happen.
I remember being in M&S and found a food item (I check dates and pick from the back were possible) that was out of date by 2 days - when I went to the checkout I informed the cashier that and item on the shelf was 2 days pasted the sell by date before (hopefully) someone else purchased it.The shinbone is a device for finding furniture in a dark room.:TBig thanks to all competition posters:T0 -

I would also report it to your local Environmental Services dept, if it is a regular occurence but is never reported the store will keep getting away with it.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I'm surprised it didn't smell or taste off being 2 weeks out of date. Is the date clear or is the print a bit skewed? I mean even if it said 25th that's still out of order.
Just makes you wonder how 'fresh' this stuff is if it lasts that long without being stinky :eek:0 -

It also makes me wonder what they are putting into the food to make it so it isnt smelly - i could accept the mistake of a couple of days out of date but 2 weeks is really out of order. I would be quite happy with the refund but i would want reassurance from management that they would deal with the problem in future.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
As others have said. Take it back to the shop and get your refund, this is as much as you can do directly.
Then report them to trading standards / environmental health and hopefully they'll do a proper investigation to see if it is widespread.0 -
I was in a bar once with some friends. We ordered 4 bottles of Budweiser (or something like that). Tasted fine, drunk it but for some reason I looked at the date on the bottle and it was out of date.
Anyway told bar staff and get 4 new bottles of in date bud for nothing......result.Iva started Dec 2018.0
