Hi,
I was not sure where to post this but thought as it refers to the possibility of repair over replacement i thought old style might be the place.
I have a pair of walking boots. I got them last year - about august - from Blacks. I think they were Blacks own label but still cost around £100. I was informed by the salesman that the Event fabric they use was better then Goretex. Not sure if its true or not but they were £20 cheaper than the pair i originally went in for and its not like a shop to down sell!
Anyhow... the problem i have is that every time i put weight on my right foot whilst walking there is a squeak from the right heal. It is fairly audible, worse in the wet and very annoying. They are Vibram soles. Other than the squeak the boots are in good condition having seen a fair bit of use walking the dog maily during the winter months. Still have a lot of tread left on them adn still waterproof.
Can i get these repaired? Would it mean new soles? any idea on a rough cost to get them fixed? can i just take them to any cobbler or would it need to be specialist who can weld the soles back on?
Cheers,

It's probably just a small hole which is forcing air in and out to make the noise, Have a good look to see if you can find it and bung it up with a bit of evostick or clear sealant. Not sure you'll be able to have new soles put on if they are moulded.
I'd go back to blacks and say that you are not happy as you think its a defect in materials / workmanship, they should be helpful, if not quote the sale of goods act at them.0 -
Not sure about Black's own range of walking boots, but I do know that it's possible to have outdoor activity boots re-soled. However, it doesn't sound as though yours should really need for this to be done - it's more aimed at people whose boots take a bit of a hammering on mountains/hills etc.

Thanks,
I'll try taking them back but in typical fashion a year is just up!
But i guess going by the sale of good thing then they weren't budget boots - certainly not the most expensive - and should last over a year i guess. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -
 I have the same boots by the sounds, and mine make a horrible squeaking/squelching noise!
You've given me the courage to take them back and the other half now takes it seriously! I've only had since May and not worn them an awful lot, mostly walking on pavements too.
With regards to getting them fixed, I think your best bet is to talk to the people at blacks (hopefully they will advise rather than resell) and ask their advise as walking boots are rather scientific nowadays."Live each day as if it were your last and garden as though you will live forever"
