Hourly wage question

Hey guys!

I just passed store approval for waiter position at Harrods.

I know a few people working in food halls ground floor start at £7.50 and hour and other a bit higher.

Their job is slightly different to mine, its more sales and im in a restaurant.

Do you think it is acceptable for me to ask for £7.50, considering the people earning £7.50 on the ground floor work for the same company.

I have over 2 years experience as a waiter and numerous other customer service jobs. I know the manager well, but I don't think I can accept anything less than £7.50 as my previous jobs offered that wage and other staff instore get the same, and the fact of working at Harrods.

Kinda confused.

Id be careful about asking for a rise, they could very well tell you to leave but it depends if they would get a !!!!ed off with you, i know i wouldnt like to ask for a rise, give it a try but be warned, id imagine you would have to justify it extremely well as its harrods,

Does that mean you have received in writing an offer of a job?
I fso and so far no rate of pay has been mentioned, it is perfectly OK to ask what the pay is.
If you HAVE been told the rate of pay it is more likely you need to accept or reject what is on offer.

If they in fact are asking you what rate of pay you are looking for, it is perfectly OK to tell them £7.50 (or whatever you are seeking) but given the economic climate suggest you word your answer along the lines of "well, I was really hoping for around the £7.50 mark. Is this in line with your pay policy"? It gives you wriggle room if they say "no".
    Good luck.
  • cheers guys,
