    I agree, i was earning £5.00 an hour back in 1996, it was as an office administrator.

    Tips left in bars and restaurants must not be counted towards workers' wages, the Government has ruled.

    The change, which comes into effect tomorrow, makes it illegal for businesses to use gratuities to boost staff pay to the minimum wage.

    I agree its not a living wage for many and has to be topped up with tax credits then when your kids are 19 you loose tax credits

    wow my daughter 17 will get a whopping 4p extra an hour, she spends almost an hour getting to and from work if she walks for 2 hour shift a couple of evenings a week in a hotel

    Agreed but I dare say it isn't as simply as that

    What gets me is all this thing for fair trade and I agree with it but many people in UK are surviving on low incomes so they too have to make difficult choices. No provision for a pension other than state because all there money goes on living. The tax payer has to pay for working families tax credit and children's tax credit because employers dont pay a living wage

    I like to see these MP's/bankers survive on minimum wage
