Hello
My partner currently has a mortgage with Northern Rock. There is 55k outstanding. He has approx 25k outstanding on credit cards but he has a clean credit history.
We want to remortgage with a transfer of equity to add me onto the new mortgage. However, I have had problems with my credit in the past. I currently still have about £2000 owing on a credit card default, which will be paid off in August. I have also missed some payments on two other loans over the past 4-5 years + some rent areas about 3 years ago. A lot of my problems arose from my divorce and a close family death.
Our joint income is £45,000 with me being the higher earner. We will be borrowing 100k about 75% of the property value.
I would like to go to a high street lender, do you think this is a viable option and what approach should I take?
I'd be grateful for any advise on this situation.
Many thanks

There are high street lenders which may be willing to consider your case on its individual merits but not many. don't apply for anything online as it will damage your credit rating if you keep getting declined, your best option is to see a whole of market mortgage broker and present them with the facts, they should be able to work out the best options for you.I am a Mortgage Adviser
