So as starting a job next week - after a long period out of work I have beentrying to find out how to stop claim on JSA with jobcentre.
One person at job centre said i need to go into job centre with my book and leave it with them
and then another person from job centre says i need to ring up and give them details of employer etc and details of housing benefit so i can claim for 4 weeks run off.
thing is obv people starting work wont be able to get into the job centre - i wont coz i start at 8.30 and I dont want to just post it book through the jcp door as the last time i did that they lost it.

I've also got a job today and have just been into the Jobcentre to sign off :j
I had to fill in the tear off slip that is inside my sign on booklet and leave it with them
although it does say on there that you can post it.
They are going to close my claim and just gave me the phone number so I can call the Council and tell them I'm no longer entitled to council tax benefit.

I have signed off twice this year and both times have done it by phone.
The first was very easy as they said they'd sort my housing benefit/council tax claim as well, but I still sent a letter to confirm that. I posted the bit they asked for, but not the booklet. The second time took a little bit longer as they went through working tax credits so had to ask each question 3 times. They kindly phoned me back though as I only have a mobile and the call took about 15 minutes.
I wouldn't worry about your booklet unless they ask for it, mine went in the bin.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Yes, just fill in your book stating you have started work and either drop it into the job centre or post it. If you post it, send it recorded delivery as they tend to conveniently say they have not received it.
Also you are under no obligation whatsoever to tell them who your new employers are as It is none of their business !. Just advise them what date you wish to stop your claim0 -
KILLBILL... it sounds as though you are in one of the 'pilot areas' where you can ring a specific number to sign off.
This is done through a computer programme called 'In & Out of Work' - just give them a call - the person will sign you off, let HB/CTB know (which will trigger the 'run on' period if eligible) and they can also complete a tax credit application/change of circs (again, if eligible)...
Once you do this, you don't have to send in your ES40 signing on book.
However... you cannot ring if 7 days have elapsed since you started work - in that case, you must send your ES40 book!!
Good luck!Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!0 -
This seems a good place to ask:
When I do start work, presumably the JSA needs to stop immediately. What about Housing Benefit? I'd argue that I'd still need it for my first month of work because my income is still £0 until I'm actually paid. Is this how it works?0 -
It depends on how long you have been claiming JSA for, if its for 6 months or longer your HB and CTB continue for 4 weeks after you start work, otherwise they stop at the same time as your JSA.0

Nearly 6 months now. That's a relief then.0

Just a point as well (sorry if you already know) that if you are starting work on Monday morning, your actual sign off date that you write in your booklet is the Sunday.
I filled my booklet in and handed it into the job centre on the friday before I started work.0 -
