decaffeinate your own tea

You can decaffeinate ordinary tea bags.
Put a tea bag in your cup, just cover with boiling water and leave for 30 seconds.
Pour off the water.
Now make a normal cup of tea with the decaffeinated bag.
You can use the poured off stuff to water your house plants when it has gone cold.
Use the T bags in your compost.

Wow!  Never realised *that*! Does it truly work?

I remember a scene in Brookside years ago when one of the Corkhill family were asked by the character played by Amanda Burton if she used semi-skimmed milk ...
"Course I do! I'm healthly me; I always dilute me milk with half water".

(You can use the "1st tea"  in fruit cake instead of throwing it away  ;) )

    it does work!
I used to get terrible PMT because of caffeine and spent a lot on decaff's until I found this tip on a US site.
It tastes better then the bought decaffs too.
Dont do lots of them in advance though else they lose their flavour.
  • Please send all unwanted caffeine to me!! And there was me thinking Mum reusing teabags was thriftiness! Now I know why I always got the second cup from it!
  • If you make your own wine use strong tea as the tannin, I used to save a few used teabags and make it from that.
