Steam Generator Irons

My steam iron has just packed in. I've had if for 20 years as a wedding present. I'm thinking about buying a steam generator iron.

Are they any good? Can anyone suggest a good buy?

The trouble with the darn things is that you still have to do the ironing - they need to invent one that does it for you!!. However in all seriousness, I think they are a bit more effective and definitely quicker, but the results were a tad disappointing after the hype.

Deffo worth getting. My wife would never go back to a normal steam iron. I tried it and was told NEVER to touch it again cos I burnt a shirt... DEFFO worth it lol
  • Hi
I have had a couple of steam generator ones - wouldn't go back. I got mine from Wykes electrical - they do have a website. We found them by accident when something else needed repairing but they have a shop - I think they are seconds or sometimes end of line but we have had irons, deep fat fryer and electric toothbrushes and never had a problem - they come with a 12 month warranty. Their phone no. is 0121 200 2740 - if you ask for the shop and then ask what stock they have of steam generator irons - my last one was half the price that it was in the argos catalogue. Or their website is https://www.werl.co.uk.

    Hope that helps.
  • We are on our second steam generator iron, it is definately worth the extra as it has cut down the time we iron. Oh we have a tefal which we bought online at Comet. It was cheaper than the shop and should something go wrong you can take it into a branch.

We've also got a Tefal and think it's great! Definitely better than an ordinary iron - so quick & easy. Bought ours in Makro at a good price but they also had them on offer at Amazon a while ago, might be worth looking

I cannot speak too highly of my steam generator iron - I love it !! Ihave a Morphy Richards one from Argos about£60 and it helps you speed through the ironing and gives a really good finish as well . Lord E will NOT use it , as it hisses at him LOL . Any excuse not to do the ironong . Good luck and go for it , you will not regret it .

They're great. My mum, sister and myself have had them for years. My old Tefal one's plastic knob kept perishing so I bought a new Tefal one from Argos. It was reduced from £230 to £115. This one doesn't have a knob and can be refilled while you're still using it.

You need to keep looking out for them being reduced as this is the one I bought just a month ago and it's back up in price again. They often do reductions.

I did buy a cheaper one. Morphy Richards I think it was. It was about £60 but I had to take it back to the shop as it kept spitting out water. It didn't seem to get very hot. I must have got a dud as the previous poster loves her one. :)

Thanks for all the replies. I came across this one half-price at Comet. Any comments before I purchase?

I can't find a review of it online but it looks okay. It has 90g per min of steam which is not bad (mine has 100g with a 150g boost, but I rarely use the boost) and it has the continious refill as well. Sounds like a lot for your money.

Just noticed, it also has auto shut off which mine doesn't. And it has a 1.3l tank. Mine only has 0.85l. It's plenty big but i'm getting miffed that mine doesn't have all that. :D
