Hi
Would appreciate some of your ideas on the best way to sell a car.
I have looked at ebay and am really not sure about doing it that way. Does anyone have any codes to get money off adverts for autotrader etc? I know they are not much but any money saved is money in my pocket! spoken like a true MSE.
Thanks in advance

What about the local free ads paper sorta thing, or just stick a big cardboard sign in the cars window I mean thats pretty cheap.0

put it in loot. https://www.loot.com
its free to do but you need to register. if it doesnt sell first time, just keep renewing it. can take some time to sell, depending on the car, but you cant lose anything by putting it in loot even if you advertise elsewhere.Proud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0 -
I sold my friends car using EBay, she had tried everthing else without any luck. After I sold it I noticed the buyer was from Scotland, we live in the Notts area, I thought this sale is not going to work, he hadn't been to see it. However, he made arrangements with my friend and had an AA inspection, it passed, he caught the train to where we live, my friend picked him up, he paid in case and drove the car away.0

I tried the local paper and got only 3 calls from 6 days. Was about to try auto trader but in the meantime stuck a notice in the car and within a couple of days had sold it - there's nothing to lose!0

If you or anyone you know has an email classifieds section at work this can be a fee free useful advertising post - my friend could have sould her car 4 times over on ours0

Exchange and Mart is cheaper than Autotrader; £5 website only, £10 web and paper. Autotrader is £5.99 web only and £13 web and paper for a vehicle under £1,000 and £15.99 and £26 respectively over £1,000.0

Sell it how ever you like but only accept cash on collection and if possible make sure the bank is still open once you receive the cash. someone I know sold their very nice golf GTi for cash and strange the same evening they were broken in to and the cash stolen and the car seen to get away was the one the buyer was dropped off in. It was an unlicenced taxi obviously they had told the driver what they were doing or they were in on it.0

Nothing wrong with selling it on Ebay, I've bought and sold cars and motorbikes on Ebay and never had a problem. Just a bit of common sense required thats all, describe it accurately, use a fair price if its Buy It Now and have plenty of GOOD photo's. Thats something that bothers me with Autotrader, you get a crap photo taken by someone who doesn't really give a toss and all a buyer can really make out is the colour (sometimes not even that!). Also you only get a poxy 22 words or similar and it costs an arm and a leg, its such a con.
I had a Toyota Yaris for sale, it spent 6 weeks in the Autotrader, a week in the local paper but only 4 days on Ebay before it sold. Cost to sell it on Ebay was less than two weeks in the Autotrader! The guy paid direct into my bank without even seeing the car in the flesh and I delivered it to him after ringing the bank to confirm that the funds had cleared. He was very happy with the car, everyone is a winner. Cash or direct bank transfer is the only payment I would accept for something of such high value no matter where it was sold. You absolutely must NOT take PayPal for a multitude of reasons. He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0
