Uk, US, Norwegian Pension need IFA

My husband has travelled all over with his job and has numerous different pensions. We need to speak to someone who is familiar with norwegian, us and uk pensions. I am assuming we need to see a financial advisor but are unsure of the cost, who to trust and where to look? We live in Aberdeen Scotland

search by postcode, unselect the option that only shows IFAs that pay to advertise (most dont) and look for the option that has offshore or non residents or similar to that (hopefully there is an option like that on the list. I cant recall). If there isnt an option then phone around. Typically, you are probably looking at a larger firm on a case like this as its a niche area. That said, Aberdeen could well have a few IFA firms with specialists in house given the high number of non UK nationals that must be up that way.

  • How do IFA's charge clients is it based on a percentage or just the job they do for you?

If the Norwegian pension is a Govt one, then the UK Pension Service will deal with it.

    Trying to keep it simple...;)

Up to you mainly. By the hour, fixed amounts or percentages are all common ways of paying. Each IFA will be able to let you know their remuneration methods before you do anything with them and they are required to tell you this before you incur any potential fee. Therefore giving you the chance to exit before you can be billed.

Eden, there would be no need to see a "specialist" as suggested as your husband is a UK citizen. In Aberdeen, as im sure you know your husband's situation is two a penny and therefore any local IFA will have vast experience of dealing with your situation.

He's probably accumulated alot of baggage along the way so it will make sense to get everything looked at by an IFA, not a bank advisor.

Any suggestions on were or who to start with? I am in a spot where I can't afford to not see a IFA but also can't afford a huge expense. I guess I am dammned if I don't especially in the long run and benefits of seeing an IFA now. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
