Im not too up on this but i seem to remember that you can place an ad in the local paper or something like that, stating that you will not be responsible for any debts incurred by a certain person. citizens advice would probably confirm or deny this.0

Any chance you mught be getting back together? you might try Relate - although their waiting lists in some areas are huge!
Otherwise do what everyone else is saying - ring your boss at work (I assume you work) and tell them you got food poisoning and then go to CAB and tell them EVERYTHING - take hte documents with you if you can't remember it all.
Hope it all works out for you.just in case you need to know:

thank you all so much for your sound advice, my relationship is beyond relate, drink and drugs and the mid life crisis and the computer is what has split us up ,i supported him so much in trying to help him but its come to the point that i've got to think about my kids,i can't help a man who can't help himself,i've gone through this misery for 3 years.
i've gone to the CAB before and i really did'nt get the advise i was after it seemed so pointless going as i never got any of my questions answered, i found most of what i needed to know on the internet,so this is why i came on here because i couldn't find the answer anywhere, i found something called court/consent order would anyone know if this would help?
thank you to you all
