Holiday?

Can I go on holiday after BR? I will be going BR in a few days and my parents has paid for a 2 weeks holiday in Spain for me, my daughter and themselves this coming half term. I have been suffering from mild depression and anxiety over the last 9 months and my parents thought a holiday may give me a break after my attempted suicide in July.

I am worried if I should or can go if I will be going BR in a few days? Do I have enough time to do OR interview before going on the 17th Oct if I go BR on 8th Oct? What happened after OR interview? Is there lots of nitty gritty things to take care of and I should be around when OR needs me?

Should I put off BR until I come back from holiday?

Please advise.

Hey Charlie, I'm not an expert but from what I've read you're allowed to take a holiday. You have to keep the OR informed as they need to know your whereabouts in case they need to contact you.
    2019 MFW No. 74 £13700/£30000 (45.66%)
    12k in 2018 No. 98 £6274.19/£18000 (34.85%)

    BTL (start) £97440.00 (current) £68000.00
    Residential (start) £275000.00 (current) £268000.00
  • Ditto what good lady Iquit said......the OR is pretty flexible and you do usually get the chance to speak to them very briefly after you've been seen in court....just explain to them then (they may ask who paid for the trip though!) as said though all you need to do is leave a way of contact while away & you should be fine

Basically though what happens is you get your court date.....all the BR paperwork goes through then as I said you have a very quick call for any urgent bits with the OR office..your not always guaranteed an interview straight away depending on how busy the OR's office is...may take a few weeks after the 1st contact..they'll interview you either face to face or the more usual over the telephone for anything from a few minutes to an hour or so depending how complicated things are..they'll ask about your debts your spending etc nothing really to worry about just be open and honest and it'll be fine....after that it'll go pretty quiet with the OR they'll usually call again if they need to...

  • Hi charlie

Good luck in the coming days with your BR. Your parents are paying for the holiday so no need to worry there....sounds like you need it after July & it will help your recovery.

In terms of the OR...as Phil says ..they will call back/arrange a convenient time. They are very busy at the moment anyway. If you give a mobile number then is there any reason why the OR cannot call you if they need to wherever you are?...just a thought.

  • Depending on the size of family, you can seem to add in £25-£50 a month into your other expenditure budget as holiday, along with all the other costs such as life insurances, car tax, petrol maintenance, etc.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
  • I went BR early August, and only had my OR interview yesterday. I am going on holiday on 16th October, I told the examiner, and he asked why I was telling him, of course you are allowed to have a holiday, and wished me a lovely holiday. He also said it was unlikely I would hear anything from them for a couple of months anyway, and in the unlikely event they wanted to contact me while I am away, he made a note on my file that I wouldnt be around to reply.

And, if it helps, when I did originally get my OR interview date through after going BR, I thought I couldnt attend due to work commitments and I asked if it was possible to reschedule it for the following week. As it happened, I managed to sort out the time off work, and when i rang to ask the OR a different question, she asked if I had managed to sort it out or did I still want to postpone?

In many ways they are human!!! dont worry, keep them informed and have a great holiday!!!

Get the BR done & dusted and then you can go on holiday with a clearer head, yes may still have the OR interview to do when you get back, but they will be fine.
In our experience the OR have been lovely, helpful, reasonable & human. If you were going for two weeks in Barbados paid for in advance on a credit card that's included in your BR they may have a reason to get stroppy but it's perfectly reasonable that your parents would take their daughter on hols after such a rotten time recently. Go & enjoy :-)
