Parking 'fine' advice, please

Hello!
First of all, i'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I'd really like some advice on a parking 'fine' i got at the weekend. I parked at my local Sainsburys, went into town then went to the store on the way back from town. The limit for staying the car park is 90 minutes and I exceeded this. Upon returning to my car i found a ticket on the windscreen from the cretins at Euro Car Parks.
The parking bays have sensors in them, so the fact i was longer than 90 minutes obviously triggered the attendand to come over and give me a ticket. What i'd like to know is - do i actually have to pay it? How can a private company just issue me with a 'fine' like this? I'm pretty sure that a private company have no legal power to issue fines, and have a brief read at lunch today, i'm fairly sure that this ticket is actually some kind of invoice.
Should i write to Euro Car Parks and tell them i won't be paying? I'm thinking i might request a photo of my car over the sensor - and request that they prove that i owe them money. I think it's pretty unfair that i should come back to my car late, and, as a customer of my local Sainsburys (i only ever shop there) i'm being penalised big style by what seems to be some cowboy operation. Do Euro Car Parks actually have the power to enforce this? The ticket says that they can request my details from the DVLA, which i thought was rubbish, but have since found out that, of course the DVLA will sell my details, of course! So the car park company will be able to get my address etc and send me threatening letters if i don't pay. Will they be after the driver or the owner of the vehicle? Can i tell them i don't know who was driving the car? Do they actually have the power to affect my credit rating based on the frivalous issuance of a seemingly made up ticket? Your help would be much appreciated, thank you!

I'd say that the 'Parking Fines, Tickets and Parking' forum might be more appropriate.0

To affect your credit rating they would have to take you to court, for them to win and then you default on the fine from court,,, so no they cant.
Just ignore the theives. Do not acknowledge anything from them or even phone them.

try a search on this site as well, there have been a number of long posts about these parking "invoices".
Totally unenforceable as a penalty notice.====0 -

Do as D123 suggests .... ignore ... these are NOT enforceforable.
