Recipe substitution help

Hey all

I want to make flapjacks and found this recipe on here:

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=469504&postcount=100

What is granulated suger? I have normal white suger, caster sugar and a small amount of icing sugar. Can I use one of these?

Also should I use salted or unsalted butter? I have both in fridge.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a newbie baker :)

TIA

granulated sugar is normal sugar - I never buy caster sugar as its just granulated ground a bit finer. if recipe calls for caster sugar i just stick that amount in plastic bag and run rolling pin over it until its finer. I hate paying extra for caster sugar! oh and if you have the patience - you can keep going and make icing sugar!!! (I buy that)!
  • Thanks all!

I'll let you know how they turn out later

  • I never buy icing sugar but needed some for a recipe once so I tipped granulated onto the spinning blades of my liqiudiser and let it have a quick whizz.

It wasn't quite as fine as icing sugar (still a little bit gritty) but it did the job quite well.
  • They have turned out yummy! Thanks peeps
