I was planning on having honey and mustard glazed roast ham tonight. It's the first time I've made it.
Ham has been cooking in oven, have taken it out, cut off the skin and all was looking good so far.
Went to the cupboard, found the mustard and sugar, but no honey. Have since discovered it has, over time been eaten by MrG1980.
All the recipes I've found require honey. I can't go out to get some and now have a half finished ham sitting on the side.
Can I do this with just mustard and sugar and will it be as nice?
I did see a recipe for balsamic vinegar and mustard but really not sure about the sound of that.

I used to glaze hams by spreading mustard thinly over the fat, sprinkling it thickly with soft brown sugar, scoring it into diamonds then finishing it in the oven. No honey involved. I would just use a little more sugar to replace the honey if I were you.Val.0

Try golden syrup or maple if you have any, it should give a similar effect.

I don't have syrup of any variety in the cupboard. the last lot of maple syrup I had got eaten too quickly making pancakes, it's dangerous in this house!
I've done it just with the mustard and a sugar. If it turns out ok I'll do it again but make sure I have all the ingredients!
It's annoying though, it's first time I've made it and he's just waiting for it to go wrong. I could see it in his face when I said about trying to make it. Practically laughed when I said I was going to attempt a chicken and ham pie for the first time with the left over roast chicken and ham.
At least I'm trying!0 -

You could use marmalade, or the syrup from a jar of stem ginger, if you have some

How very supportive of him! Is he a brilliant cook then????
I've long ago taught my OH and the kids that any moaning about the food and they get to cook the next meal. Really, if I've gone to the effort of producing it then the least they can do is eat it with a degree of grace. Yes I'll take constructive comments on board but downright moaning is not allowed, lol!Val.0 -

This is probably a bit late for you now, but do you know your neighbours well enough to ask if they've got any honey you could have used? (You could have then bought them a replacement jar when you went shopping)No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0 -
honey is really just a sugar - Ive used demarara, soft brown and ordinary granulated on ham. all worked well! just keep careful eye on it so it doesnt burn. not black anyway!0

sliced orange over the outside of the ham and orange juice to baste it would have been nice too.

Well I did it with just the mustard and sugar and for a first attempt, I was really pleased.
I think I may have cooked it for 15 mins too long though, as I got distracted and forgot what time I originally put it in the oven.
Don't know what he thought of it though as he went out after work in the end, so his half is in the fridge!0
