Reception venues near North Birmingham

Hi all,

I got engaged two weeks ago and now the hunt is on for a nice reception venue. We are planning to get married in my family's church in Erdington, north east Birmingham, and need a reception venue on a budget! OH is being awkward and wants somewhere "nice" and we were looking at the Botanical Gardens. I don't think the room that's the right size for us there has a bar, though, and the food (we would have to use their caterers) is expensive. I would quite like somewhere a bit different, even perhaps hiring a cottage or something for us all to party in, I don't know.

Any suggestions?

It depends on your budget and numbers..if I had an idea then I could probably look for something over that side of Birmingham (I am based in South Birmingham and admit that I don't normally venture over that side). Post up your catering budget and your numbers for day and evening do if you are having one..and I will look through my venue list.

Have you tried the Ramada in Sutton, probably cheaper than you think it will be if you go for one of their packages and haggle!

I'm going to look at the botanical gardens in october.

Try the Lea Marston Hotel - its not that far from Erdington.

Budget... well, Botanical Gardens would cost about £2000 - no room hire, but we have to use their expensive caterers. There'll be around 80 people, perhaps less. I'd really appreciate any help you can give, Horace. I only have till April, and I'm stressed! :) We're having the ceremony itself at a church in the afternoon, and then straight on to the evening reception, no wedding breakfast.
