Managed to sort it, eventually tracked down someone else in the volunteer centre and they have agreed to give me a ref. so handed in my notice on the 15th and now have 2 weeks to work, i am taking the last week as annual leave, so hopefully I will be starting new job on the 12th :j
I am very excited and cant wait!

Just to add my two pennorth - if a company is asked for a reference, they can't say anything bad if its not true, as you can sue them. They may only give the legal minimum, which i think is just dates of employment (someone else feel free to correct me if i'm wrong!) but they are obliged to give the minimum requirement.

Good luck to you & daughter at uni - i've got DS1 at Leeds, changing course after 2 years, mum suddenly finds she's going to have to find fees for next year coz he won't be funded - aaargh, why won't he get a job?! thank goodness i'll be DF by then!
