I know you're all going to go YUCK when you read this, but try before you knock it!
Whenever we have a chicken or turkey, we drain the juices into a bowl. When it sets, there's a layer of jelly and a layer of dripping. This is great on toast. Put a scraping of dripping first then some jelly and a bit of salt if you want. It's really nice. You eat the juices in the meat and in your gravy so why not lie this?
Saves money!!!

I won't say yuk but I will say we only used to do this with beef (and when I say used to I mean many years ago!).
Loved beef dripping on thick crusty bread with a pinch of salt but I bet it's about 20 years since I tried this. ;DMink0 -
Oooooh bread and dripping!!!!!
When my eldest brother joined the Army and would come home on leave, my Mother would scrimp and scrape to buy him a pork chop as a treat for tea (she was a widow bringing up 5 of us on a cleaners wage).
He would roll his eyes and explain that every night in the NAFFI he had a choice of beef, pork, gammon, chicken, lamb in every type of guise and what he really, *really* wanted, was some good old bread and dripping!!! ;D
Maybe it stems from the day he turned up with 10 friends for his "birthday party" ... no it wasn't his birthday, he just wanted to make friends and had invited the first 10 kids he found - Mum was in despair and our father (dying!) said: "Give them whatever we've got!" She did ... bread and dripping and a mug of cocoa each. All those kids went away thrilled to bits that they'd been to the new kids birthday party LOL~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After a truly dreadful month financially hubby and I have been really reining in our grocery spending.
I resorted to challenging my childhood loathing of bread and dripping last Friday - and shockingly discovered it is wonderful!!
I can't stop eating the stuff!! Anyone else adore it?
What's the best dripping for flavour?"carpe that diem"0 -
It will give you a heart attack. lol.0

Hi Steel:hello:
can't say I have ever tasted it myself (Mum wasn't keen on feeding us fats like that) but I have read about plenty on here talking about it!
There is a really old thread which discusses bread and dripping. I'll add this one to it later to keep it all together
thanks:)
ZipA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
