Being in debt is the best thing that has ever happened to me

What an excellent post. I can see where you are coming from. Whilst I wouldn't say that being in debt was the best thing that has ever happened to, I certainly feel that the process of taking control of the situation rather than allowing it to control me is becoming one of the major positive turning points of my life.Debt Free Nerd No. 89, LBM: April 2006, Debt at highest (Sept 05): £40,939.96

well done
That was more the aim of my post rather than bragging or trying to grandise my recovery.
I feel debt and money management are both important things to deal with.
I have read LOTs of posts on here and a lot of good advice is handed out, however i think as for as ive read (i havent read every post) no one seems to address the root causes of this debt, and which i beleive it attitude and belief
Im not talking about religious belief but i think sometimes the "support" mentality does go too far.
People desperately need the support and luckily its given, but maybe sometimes people are too nice and thats not always the best policy.
I think once someone gets trapped in a belief system which says there is no way out or i CANT do this, then they will not head out of debt to any level of financial security, i desperately hope my posts can help change peoples perspective, this was the first of many to come
People do need help, thats what i love about this place, so many good people, makes me feel positive about the world0 -
Great post Kev,
Its good to hear you are so determined and are not just looking at this financially but also as life-changing in other areas.
I too would also be interested in the tapes you have been listening to if you could PM me the names.
And I know what you mean about wasting time in front of the TV. My friends dont know how I cope without sky but I feel like I do so much more in a day rather than watching soo much TV.
Keep inspiring others, it helps us all keep on track.

Excellent post!! I have to agree with you & admit also that being in debt was the best thing that could have happened to me. It was as tough as hell at the time (when paying it back, I had fun spending it!!), but it has completely changed the path of my life. I am not so materialistic or shallow & I appreciate the simpler things in life & being happy doesnt mean spending money!!
I am not sure I am the same person..
It now amazes me that people can spend ALL of their wages AND more on bits and pieces and not save anything??!!!!! I couldnt imagine not saving anything (oh how things have changed!!!)..
If I hadnt have been in debt I wouldnt have gone to Spain, nor moved to London & perhaps I never would have realised I wanted to go travelling? I am not convinced that I would still be living at home, but I wouldnt be living the life I am now thats for sure!!
Oooh, a bit emotional for a Monday!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
