To the OP yes that is ludicrous - to say no not as a mortgage, but yes as a loan. When I move my mortgage I am always asked about other loans and credit and they are taken into account.
However your comment what can I do about it - is that who can I sue/blame - no one - you are an adult and have to get away from compensation/ blame culture that is becoming increasingly endemic.0
