Clawing my way out of the debt pit

  • I must stop eating cous-cous. I bought a mammoth supply of the stuff on offer and had enough for about three weeks' worth of lunches, and now I've got one measly packet left. I'm on a major carb-crave. I think it's work-related tiredness. I'm banishing myself to left-overs next week as punishment for cous-cous greediness.

So, I've picked myself up an extra job today which will give me a bit more cash for the month. I've still not updated my amazon seller account, so I must try and add a few bits on there.

It's such a long and slow process. I'm a now, now, now kind of person. I know it's taken years to accumilate all of this debt, but I can't help like feeling I've been good for five weeks, surely the 45k should have gone by now?!! :o

Oh, and the Lidl nappies definitely seem like a sure thing. I'm also liking Sainsbury's basic tinned tomatoes. They are a staple now at our house.

  • It's such a long slow process and every time you think you've taken a step forward, something happens to make you take three back. I'm fed up today. I don't like where we live, but it's going to be ages before we can move. Oh, for a modest lottery win.

So, I've contemplated and number-crunched and I've finally figured out my Christmas budget. It's around £650.

Now I've just got to work out how I'm going to raise that kind of money in the next couple of months!!

The adult spending has been much reduced by the fact that we're doing a £30 secret Santa instead. This means that everyone gets a decent present bought on behalf of the whole family. I think it's a nice idea. We have to do two - one of behalf of me and one from hubby. So that's £60 to raise, let alone the challenge of figuring what the heck we're going to buy the two people we've picked out of the hat.

I want a bread maker... think I might have to wait until next year for that ;).

Then there's the kids. The budget takes into account baby boy's Number 1 birthday as well as Christmas for him and pre-teen daughter who is very accustomed to being spoiled. She will have a degree of a rude awakening this year, but possibly not as harsh as I'm tempted to be!!

So, the budget is set. I'm aiming for this to include hubby's son and baby nephew too, plus the in-laws. Then there's cards, wrap, postage and, finally, nights out with work.

    Wish me luck!

On a less festive note, we're up to the two month mark since LBM. So far, we've not used a credit card, which is a miracle in itself, and even though I've overspent on food and petrol this month (), we're still leagues below what we used to spend. I'm hoping to make at least a £500 overpayment on the dastardly Virgin card on Monday.

    So far, so good... :T
