  • I love them sliced up and fried with lots of salt. They spit quite a lot but are worth the burns!

Not had them for ages. I have a feeling i'll recreate it and won't find it anywhere near as delicious as my mind tells me it is.
  • Wow, guys, thanks a lot - I knew there would be some great ideas out there - why do I look at them and think - accompaniment? Will try out some of those ideas - may even buy another tin!!

Take the tin out to the caravan and put it in the box in the caravan cupboard, then take it touring with you for the next three years. One night you will arive at a campsite in France - it'll be Sunday, the shops will have shut at mid-day and the only thing in the fridge will be some eggs, a cold sausage and a bunch of spring onions. Next to the potatoes will be a tin of sweetcorn and some tomato passata. You can then either: fry everything together to make an omelette of last resort (actually tastes pretty good), or look at it all, throw in the towel go into the nearest town for a meal and start again the next day, while the tin of potatoes carry on their annual European tour.

I've done both recipes, and both work fine!
Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!
  • add them to a curry YUM!
  • I've used up a tin of potatoes in a Potato and chickpea curry. Recipe adapted from one in an ASDA magazine.

    Serves 4.
    2tbsps sunflower oil
    1 large onion, chopped
2tbsps Asda curry powder, mild or medium
400g can Asda chopped tomatoes with garlic (I use the value chopped tomatoes and add garlic)
350g new potatoes, boiled and cut into 1cm cubes (I used the tin of potatoes and I don't bother cutting mine up).
    400g can of chickpeas, drained
    2tbsps lemon juice
2tbsps Asda mango chutney plus, if desired extra for serving.
Naan bread, to serve (I usually serve it with rice and peas).

    1. Heat oil in a saucepan, add onion and cook until soft. Add curry powder and stir over a low heat for 1 minute.
    2. Add the canned tomatoes and 50ml of water. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the potatoes, chickpeas and lemon juice, uncovered, for a further 10 minutes.
    3. Stir in the mango chutney and serve with naan bread and, if desired more mango chutney.

    DELICIOUS!
  • I tried to deep fry some once and it was like a missile range in the kitchen.
I'm not too keen on them as they taste a bit waxy but have had them in a stew and a curry and they were fine.
