Hi,
Having issues with my laptop power. It struggles to get a good connection, went out to buy a new lead today (The last on got snapped after a slight dissagreement
) and its still the same so I have ruled out the lead being faulty.
I can now only assume its the connecter that you plug the lead into on the back of the laptop, but I dont know thew technical term for it so I can find a new one.
What are they called? Where can I find a new one? And how much would it cost to repair?
Thanks

I'd call it the "laptop power socket", but what do I know?
If you have broken it off internally from the body of the laptop, you would really need to get it repaired professionally -- if it can even be done reliably. You could be talking about a new case, in the worst possible case\\\\situation...

It doesnt look broken at all it will only connect if I jiggle it around so whether it needs resoldering I dont know

My dad is good with them and was thinking of seeing if he can repair it if I bought the component itself but if he couldnt at least I would only be paying for the guys time to fix it

Would say it is the power supply I would also suggest Maplins or have a look here for more specific items as not all power supplies for laptops are the samehttp://www.laptopsandspares.com/acatalog/New_AC_Adapters.html0

I have seen so many laptops power socket where the cables/adaptors plug in to the laptop fail, either the pin comes out or the whole thing comes of the main board and falls inside. if the conector inside is loose and stopping you get a good connection dont go messing about jiggleing it as you could cause more damage I know it happened to my laptop I blew the motherboard and destroyed the battery.
If the problem is between the cable to the plug socket and the power convertor then it could be a broken wire in the cable or the adaptor connector is knackered. again messing with it could be harmfull. If the laptop is still in warrenty then contact the makers or shop and get them to sort it out why mess if you dont need to.
You can buy power supplies but every laptop seems to use a different one and finding the same one is dificult or expensive if you go to the manufacturer try ebay or Scan.co.uk used to sell universal adaptors where you had differnt plugs, voltage selector and current selector there were a few different ones with different voltage and cuurent ranges. be carefull again the wrong one can cause damage.0 -
Its nothing to do with the power lead itself, its the socket in the back of the laptop. Might just pass it on to daddy and get him to fix it for me

This seems to be a common problem with laptops.
I have just replaced a motherboard in an Acer laptop with the same problem.0 -

An arm and a leg if you need a new motherboard. It's probably a dry joint, or possibly a broken socket, which are a couple of quid. Is it a round one?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
