In just a few days I now feel a whole lot more positive about my situation. That is entirely down to the kind and helpful comments from the people on here. I now don't feel alone. Yes it is getting me down - not sleeping and not eating properly - but knowing that there are people who give great advice without lectures is such a comfort.
I haven't told my friends and family about my debts but I have told them that I am on an economy drive. My 2 best friends have decided to join me! We are now taking lunches to work rather than buying them. Have stopped buying newspapers and magazines.
I've moved energy supplier. Car insurance up for renewal at the end of the month and already have a quotes that will save me between £15 - £20 per month. Can save around £20 per month on my buildings and contents insurance. Next thing to get down is my phone and broadband costs.
I will admit that I spend way too much on food and end up wasting it. My sister spends between £35 and £50 per week on food/cleaning stuff etc for her and her husband. They eat very well. I am now going to do my shopping with her and she has agreed to not let me be wasteful. Between now and Friday I have to find out exactly what is in the store cupboard and freezer and work with that.
The debt is huge and god knows how long it will take to repay but I will do it. I know that "things" (shoes, handbags, clothes, books) won't make me happy. They won't bring back lost loves and right bad situations. My problems started with a devious t**t ex-husband but I have compounded them by not making the most of previous opportunities and burying my head in the sand. I will appreciate what I have, live within my means and look forward to the future.
Thank you everyone who has commented.
