Fast turnaround on a mortgage for FTB?

Hi,
I wonder if any of you clever people can help me? We have just had our offer accepted on a house and need to sort out the mortgage. We were going to opt for First Direct's offset tracker (we are not yet First Direct customers) but their website says they take up to 12 weeks. This seems like a very long time - is this normal?!
Are there any firms that are particularly fast at completing a mortgage offer? I wouldn't mind paying a little more interest if it meant we secured the house faster.
We need a flexible mortgage that allows overrepayments, I am undecided about fixed or variable, but flexible is the key.
I would be so grateful for any assistance!

Hi, I think that is a worst case scenario from First Direct to be honest - I recently applied with them and the service was excellent, everything was turned around in a few weeks (in fact they kept chasing me for not sending back the paperwork quickly enough!)
Before I applied I'd done a search on here to see what other people thought of their customer service and it seemed to be very positive on all the threads I found.0 -
Hi I just spoke to them earlier on the phone re the offset tracker and they said it would be on average around 5 weeks from receipt of signed documents by them. So if you were to ring them today, they would send you documents to sign (and request payslips etc.) and the five weeks would start from their receipt of those documents. I was told it could take less time so long as everything went very smoothly.
I'd give them a ring though to check.0 -
Accord mortgages say for the week ending 18th September ...
Cases offered within 8 day standard 100%
Average time to offer other cases 19 days
Dunno what they are like though and you cant go direct to them.0
