I;ve only ever seen one policy with a restriction, and that was van insurance. My car policy includes UK mainland, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Republic of Ireland specifically, got through Hughes0

I have always went for the AA roadside and relay - when an offer is on and don't forget quidco for good cashback (not at present though)
It includes ROI as standard, I even called to check when taking my last policy out last November

If it's any good to you, Quinn Direct car insurance comes with breakdown cover as standard, which covers you throughout the UK and Ireland.0 -
The AA def covers Ireland North and South on their general package whereas with RAC you need to go for European cover to do north and south. Same with green flag. That's why I stayed with AA.0

I'm with RAC and don't have European cover - I pay £47.50 p/a - and have used them in RoI. It was a few years ago but I haven't had anything from them to say my cover has changed.0 -

I checked again with them outside Tesco in the city centre over the summer (they had a stand) and they said that def RoI wasn't covered. They had also told me this over the phone before. will be interesting to see if anyone has had any different experiences.
As for AA in RoI I check with them every time I renew and they do say they cover RoI but luckily I've never had to put it into practice...0 -
From RAC UK's website:Your question
I live in Northern Ireland, will I be covered for recovery in Southern Ireland without taking European Cover?
Your answer
Yes - if you have UK breakdown membership, you will be entitled to only Roadside Cover within the Republic of Ireland. This means we will attempt to fix your vehicle at the roadside, or give you a 10-mile tow to the nearest garage. For all other services, including Recovery, you would need to take out European Breakdown Cover.0 -

That's works out alot cheaper than calling some rip-off recovery firm from the Republic.0
