I wanna buy a digital camera with optical zoom as cheap as poss

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me, I did try and use the search facility but couldn't find what I was looking for.

About a year ago I bought a digital camera for about £55 from boots but it is not good at all, when it is slightly dark you can barely see what you are taking a picture of and the flash is way too bright. For example if I was to take a picture of some white or light blue jeans to sell on ebay all you would be able to see is a bright white blob!
It was 3 megapixels and 3x digital zoom

Please could someone reccommend a good digital camera, the most I would prefer to pay is £80 but could stretch to £100 if there is nothing available that cheap.

I am very rubbish with the jargon and dont know what to look for in a camera. I just want something that takes good quality pictures and shows true colours. Thankyou

You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.

I really think that with cameras you get what you pay for. To get something half decent be prepared to pay £150 +, unless you come across an end of range offer or similar.
You want 3 times optical zoom, ignore anything about digital zoom - that just degrades the picture. Look for 5 mega pixels or more if poss.

And finally I would buy a camera with the name of a camera company on it rather than an electronics company. Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Minolta etc, etc.
Reason:- digital camera lenses are very small, you need the best quality lens not the best quality electronics to get good potos. You can also change the colours, if needed, in your PC ! You can't get it into focus then! its too late.

I have the digital Canon Ixus 700 but if you can't stretch your budget..., (you get what you pay for, avoid the cheap and cheerful for that is all they are)

I bought my daughter this model - she is very happy with it.

  • I bought one of these weeks ago because I am not a camera expert and just wanted something that would give decent pictures for less than £100.

I have seen prints from the Canon Ixus range and this matches them all. Even the Ixus 700 and these are very very good cameras.

For this price it has to be the BEST camera money can buy. I am not one just to say these things because I got one myself, if it were not up to much then I would say so but it is blumming fantastic. But I must admit I do not know much about cameras. :) I am just happy with the pictures it throws out.
