To cut a very complicated story short..er lol....
I have been with Npower since we moved to our house in 2007. When i tried to switch in early 2008 i found myself in the position of £800 debt with them, so i stopped the transfer, tripled my monthly DD to them and submitted regular meter readings to stop the situation happening again... or so i thought.
I received a bill early this year and was in credit so decided to now swith to a cheaper provider, Npower phoned me and tried to offer new deals to stay that they couldnt offer when i'd called before (thats a different rant!) but i declined and said because of they way i'd been dealt with by them in relation to my debt was disgusting and i was glad to be leaving, the advisor then told me i was still in debt and my final bill would confirm this!!!!!
Mad was an understatement! it turned out i was in debt by £350 electric and £160 gas. They wanted this paying that day. My partner had been made redundant so explained i couldnt afford, the girl said i could pay on a card weekly, whatever i could afford. I agreed received my card and was paying £20 electric and £10 gas a week. I then missed a week and within days received a threatening letter demanding the FULL (without my weekly payments deducted) payment and that i'm been taken to court and 8% intrest will be added to the amount. The phone line for this collection dept is only open 8.30-4.45 mon-fri and as my partner has lost his job im working 8-6 everyday to make ends meet, so cant phone, he tried to and they wouldnt let him speak as its all in my name.
I have continued to pay every week paying extra if we can afford, but am scared about the court threat. I wrote to them today explaining all of the about but sont know if it will get to them in time... or if they will just ignore it.
Sorry for the long post and does anyone have any advice?

i too am having trouble with npower and i'd say you want them to put this through to the complaints deptment and demand a manual re-calculation of your account. They are doing this to mine (for a different reason ie they owe me money) and it can take up to 4 weeks i've been told but it will be acurate. Also you might want to check that the rate times are correct (mine aren't apparently) rate 1 is the day rate and that should be 8.30am to 1.30am if you have a digital meter and 8am to 1am if it's and analogue meter.
stick to your guns, you can only afford what you can afford there is no point in them harrassing you for more cause they just wont get it. If you've kept your reciepts from the card payments you've made thats good and you should take copies of them and send them addressed to complaints department so they have those.
after that you just have to wait and see what the maual calculation comes out as and go from there.
hope this helps and good luck0 -
thanks very much, i'll get onto them in the morning. I'll have to ring the usual number as there debt collector are only open when i'm at work!!!0
