No I do not think you can do this. If you surrender your Licence you would have to reapply again. What kind of job would ask you not to have a licence? An SIA badge is a good thing isnt it??

I can't imagine why not holding a license would be a pre-requisite in the job then for you to subsequently produce one a week later.
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.

I didnt know that. I would have tohught SIA would be very useful ( I have SIA) as you are trainined in how to diffuse situations etc.

Im really surprised at that! Who told you this?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...

If this is the case and your not allowed to hold one then cancelling and then re-activating it would be a beach of your contact with the police.

They may prefer people not have it in the same way as they prefer police officers not to work security on their time off to stop any conflict of interests.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • Who told you that or where did you read it?

I just looked at the criteria and there is no mention of that.
  • There is a potential for a conflict of interest, but at the end of the day it would be at the discretion of the Chief Constable as to whether you would be allowed to be a Special Constable whilst doing Security at the same time.

I would check out the forums on http://www.policespecials.com or just ask the force in question. I wouldnt try and hide things, as it wouldn't go down too well :D

Mate what they mean is that you cant be employed in a security job where you hold an SIA license,
    AND,
work as a special constable at the same time.

You can have the license but be unemployed, or work in a job not related to the security industry,
and then they would be fine with it.

Having the SIA license is actually an advantage because when you hand in your police vetting forms one of them is regarding CRB checks.
And so when you get your SIA they also will have CRB checked you, and would have sent you a copy of your CRB record.
SO you can give that check's ref number on your vetting form and the police will like that as it saves them time and money.
