ive re done it taking out saving money and adding a couple of things id forgotten.
considering how hard we both are working atm we have nothing left to do anything. with 6 kids between us that isnt good. we spend alot of time on the roads because of kids sport committments etc too.
we do tend to have very cheap days out, visiting family at coast resorts etc and i dont remember the last time we went somewhere like bowling or cinema as we just cant afford it. i smoke but im rolling my own to bring to cost down. ive given up various times but i dont get help with perscriptions and i found i was eating more so i didnt save any money. if i go out i drink before at friends houses then sneak a hip flask into my bag. the last time i went out with friends i spent 12 pounds and that included a taxi home and a chicken burger :o
im really trying to tighten my belt where everythings concerned. im working from home which is very slow but its an income, it doesnt help being here all day though as it puts household bills up.
weve changed from bt/sky for our phone to virgin saving money,i use quidco, pigsback, top cashback for things and i am waiting on my insurance payouts because i went through quidco.i honestly want to be debt free for once in my life. i cut up my credit cardsand its extremely rare i go into my over draft. i darent cancel it just yet though, i keep it there for emergencys.
i look on here all the time for recipes, im not daring enough to do the grocery challenege just yet but maybe one day. thing is though we are a family who love our food all too much , its one thing that makes us happier when things are dire money wise.
anything i can add i will do
    thanks for all the replies
it feels better just getting things out in the open i suppose
ive even done a first and made a very small shopping list of things that we need, and i will be sticking to it :)

rimme, are you in Scotland or England?

After 6 years a debt becomes statute barred (5 in Scotland), so it may be worth looking to see if this is already so. Do you know when the last payment you made towards the debt was?

From what you have put above, you can just manage your payments so that's good news. You should be throwing anything extra that you can at the Cap1 card and paying the minimum on all the other debts. You're not in too bad shape right now and you may even be able to save hubby some money if you can find a cheaper utility or insurance providor.
After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

    Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
    Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0

    Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/2011
  • i had a provident debt recovery letter drop on the mat. this is from about 5 years ago so can they still chase me?

Which debt are they seeking, and have you been informed by the original creditor (who you actually owed the money to, to begin with). Many debt collectors buy up debts hoping to make a profit, and many use illegal tactics or buy unenforceable debts. Can you post further info on the debt in question.

An option maybe to get them to either get full proof of the debt, i.e. a CCA for a credit card. Or perhaps tell them you do not aknowldge or know about this debt, and if they do think it is real. Then ask them for evidence supporting this.

And as above, it maybe statute bared. If not requesting this information may delay the debt over the 5/6 year threshold so it is barred, and not enforceable.

    hiya,
    its from response credit management
issued on behalf of bcw ( provident personal credit) your outstanding balance due is £651.10
we are acting on behalf of the above named client who has passed your debt to us for recovery.
our client is anxious to resolve this issue and has instructed us to collect the full balance due. the above balance must now be paid immediately.

then its followed by the usual threats of having to make contact within 14 days to make payment .
i tried to ring them but only after withhelding my number from my mobile, i cant seem to do it on the house phone and i dont want them to have my number.
    now this debt i disputed.
when i paid off my debts before moving house this was one of them, when i asked provident for a full amount i owed them they came out with this.
theyd spelt my name wrong and im 99% sure that the collector wasnt entering all the payments. id been with them a few years and because i was so absent minded they used to keep my card for me. it had worked until i got a new collector.
i argued with provident but they wouldnt budge, and i said i wasnt paying for some theif to have taken the money so it never got paid:rolleyes:
im also expecting a debt from littlewoods from a house 6/7 years ago. they turned up at my old house and i asked them to prove what i owed. he came back again and i told him blatenetly that i didnt have a clue what he was on about as i didnt have a littlewoods catalogue and he never came back with proof of what i owed. i am expecting them to come round though, as last time i joined credit expert i had a letter from provident and a visit from the littlewoods collector.
not a coincidence but only realised when i saw another thread on it.

also to answer an earlier post, we do get all benefits we are entitled to and it goes towards shopping money :)
i know that i am staying afloat at the minute but i literally have no money if anything goes wrong, to buy presents for xmas, for clothes etc.
my partners milestone birthday is coming up and i have no money to buy him anything. i got his card from when hallmark were doin the free ones so paid 70p:o
i just dont know what to do :(
my step father has money, owns his house outright and have alot of savings but i dont want to ask. my life has been full of f*&% ups and it shows again that im just a mess with money :( i have changed to what i was though, i didnt pay my bills before. i pay everything by direct debit, i get panicy if i dont pay something on time.i honestly didnt give a toss before:rolleyes:
my mum mentioned that she had spoken to him about lending me the money and his reply was " you dont pay off a debt by getting into more debt"
 hes very old school, very old fashioned and doesnt get into debt for anything so i spose he thinks im the biggest !!!! walking :(
i did say to my mum that whomever i borrowed the money off would have about 1.5k intrest over 5 years which tbh is probably more than the banks would give atm:rotfl: but i dont think it would happen.
both myself and oh have been refused a loan, weve even tried our bank who we have been with for 20 years ( oh ) 7 years (me) im just not getting it at all. we said it was for debt consolidation, if i had a loan to pay off my debts it would free up alot of money. i could have savings for once lol but everywhere we have gone have turned us down, even freedom finance, they came out with one who wouldlend to us and even they refused

Freedom finance refusing you is a blessing in disguise. A loan with them gives you anything but freedom.

The littlewoods debt from 6/7 years ago is almost certainly statute barred (assuming you haven't made any payments in that time) but even if you had the chances of them having a true copy of your signed credit agreement is 0% so unless that one rears it's head you can forget about it. Even if it does there are template letters here that you can send, but deal with that if it ever turns up. For now that one is dead.

If provident isn't statute barred then I would send the CCA letter requesting the true signed credit agreement. If they can't provide you with that it becomes unenforcable which means you do not have to make any payments. There is a long thread here about requesting a CCA if you do a search.

I still think it would be a good idea for you to do a household SOA. I know your partner pays various household bills and he doesn't have to pay a penny off your debt. But, if we can point out where you as a household can make some savings then the excess money can be put into savings for those times when things break. You can then use any excess you have to pay off the debt without the worry of things going wrong.
