Running my own business....

I currently work evenings so I can spend the day at home with my two children. I would like a second income and although I do loads of paid surveys on the internet and do some mystery shopping as well I would like to run my own business. Only problem is I need ideas for what I can do. I dont want a second job this is something I would like to do myself from home so that I can put in as much time as I can to build it up?!?!?!

My brother does technical writing, writing instruction manuals etc. He earns a fair bit from it and once told me it was fairly easy to get into. He has the added advantage that his wife is very gifted in graphics and worked in a drawing office but it might be worth thinking about.

It is quite a useful site with a section about working from home.

Also the Inland Revenue run courses, I attended one recently - 'Becoming Self Employed' which was very useful. We were told which business costs were allowable as expenses and they explained how to fill in the Self Assessment forms. If you are already working and would like the business to be your second income, you will need to contact the Inland Revenue to ask how to calculate your tax, because if you already work full time, any earnings from your business will be taxed at 22%.
