Maggie sottero sizing

Hi

I was hoping someone could offer me some advice on Maggie Sottero sizing. I can't find the dress I like anywhere in the UK so I'm considering ordering off Ebay from the US. My measurements are 36, 26.5, 35. The sizing chart on the website says a size 6 is 34.5, 26.5, 37 so this should fit on the waist. As it's corset back do you think I can adjust it to fit the bust as well or should I go for an 8 which is 36, 28, 38.5 which will be much too big on the waist and hips?

Does anyone have a Maggie dress and can advise on sizing?

I'm usually a UK 10 but I've got a fairly big bust (34DD) which makes a 10 sometimes too small on the top.

Thanks!

(I suspect the responses will just be that I shouldn't buy a dress on the internet!! Too risky!)

Could you go to a dress shop and maybe try the dress on? That way you could ask to be measured and you'd not actually be going back to the shop to buy it, that's what happened to me (except I did go back and purchase) Find out what size they would order for you and just order that one?:

Linda will advise better than me, but would have thought the best plan is getting the dress in the size that fits the 'biggest' part of you, then have the rest altered smaller??

Spot on there Frannyann. Always size to the biggest part of your body.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I was just wondering if it wouldn't be possible to let the top out an inch or two using the corset back. When they say the measurements are 34.5 inches at the bust, how tight is the corset at this point? I've tried a zip up back dress and I realise with this type there is absolutely no room for error but was hoping the lace up type would give me more leeway!

I guess I could go to a bridal shop and try on a similar dress but I'd feel a bit guilty wasting their time if I knew I had no intention of buying anything.

If its anything like my lace-up back, then the margin to 'let out' is minimal. Plus if you then needed the actual fabric let out, you risk there being marking on the fabric from the stitching?? Taking in seems a normal thing needing doing, most of us on here will our dresses altered even if ordered in 'correct' size (or like me, got one from a sale!!)

  • Thanks for the advice. I will order it in a size 8 as I'll probably need to get the length shortened anyway so if it's too big at the waist & hips I can get that done at the same time.

Now I just have to hope the seller (designerbridalbargains on ebay) are legit! Can't fnd anything bad about them.

    Hi YumYums

I've just ordered a Maggie Sottero dress (Kadence). I'm 33.5, 26.5, 37 and have gone for a US6/UK8 as it's quite fitting from mid-hip down. It might have to be taken in at the bust but the rest should be OK.

Re lenth, the order is for a 3" shorter than normal - I'm 5ft 5 and a half, and expect to wear 2" shoes, and the standard length was at least 3" too long. Shortening can be £120 so might be something to bear in mind if you know it will need to be taken up at least 3".

Out of interest, how much is the dress from designer bridal bargains? I've paid £700 for mine from a small UK stockist which is about £100 less than larger UK stockists, and not much more than advertisements from US outlets.
