I'm not much of a snob, but I dont think anyone in Luton would describe that area as S!!!!!!, drop that S and I reckon you'd be closer to the mark.

I would rather live on an ex-council estate than a swanky new-build estate.

My reason is that the new-build estate will have lots of new babies coming along at more or less the same time, who in ten year's time will be hulking, street-corner "teenagers", footballing into your flower-beds and probably dismantling cars they don't even own.....

I disagree, people buying new builds tend to move on in just a few years. Either because they realise how tiny the new builds are and go for an older roomier property or because they love the idea of a new build so much they want to move onto the next one. The number of properties for sale that are 2-5 years old on new build developments is always high.

No one should stick there noses up at ex council property, It single handedly keeps the property market open to FTB families.

I'm currently waiting upon a notice period on a ex council reprosession, and I couldn't hope to get a house of the same proportions for the provisional offer anywhere else. Its near my husbands family and while out of the way, we will never have to move house again, as it has plenty of room, and lovely gardens.

As for the snobs out there stuff them, your home is what YOU make it, and if you have pride in it, that will reflect in the price!!!!

We are first time buyers and moved into our ex-council house under a month ago and couldn't be happier. Because it is ex-council we have been able to afford an extra bedroom and a v big garden all near the centre of town. It a no-through road so nice a quiet and the neighbours all seem lovely people.

We will be staying put for many years to come, and look forward to bringing up our family in our new street :D

I'm about to move from a rented property in one of the most expensive areas in the UK to a council property in the next borough (15 min walk away from where we are living now) so my OH and i can halve our expenses and rent, gain more living space and save for our own property. His parents are going to choke on their coffee when they find out but so the snobbry does exist.
