Gift giving for a wedding - ££

If you are giving ££ for a wedding gift, how much do you normally give?

Off to a wedding this weekend & I *think* I know how much I'm planning on giving but wondered if I was being realistic about what "normal" is nowdays?!!

  • I think it depends on how close you are to the couple, how much you are willing to give as well as how much you can afford.
Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
79.5 coupons rolled over 4/75.5 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases

I am pretty thrifty so I can afford to give the amount I have in mind - I was just trying to get some idea whether the "norm" is £20, £50, £75, £100, £200, £500 etc ...

It's a friend - not a best-friend-like-a-sister type friend, but someone I genuinely like & want to give a gift to!
  • you should give what you can afford, based on how close you are to the couple in question

ie for a close friend/family member then we could probably go to £50, but for someone we arent as close to Id be more comfortable with £20/£30

but really it should come down to how much you can really afford, along with actually attending the wedding itself :)

im sure no matter what you give they will be very grateful, so dont worry over it too much :)

  • im not sure there is a 'normal' amount, as it will vary from person to person dependent on how much they can afford to give (if I think through those close to me there are some I imagine would go to a couple of hundred pounds as a gift and some that would be more like £10 - sure to what they can afford)

  • I always spend about "what they are spending on me for the wedding -i.e. meals, entertainment, drinks etc" and spend about £25 per person (i.e. if there are 5 of us invited I'll spend £125).

This might make no sense whatsover and my £25 is probably too low but I did get married 18years ago!!!

I like the system too, however nearer £90 a head here :D
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:
  • Is it just from you or do you have an other half that would contribute?
if just from you I would think 20-30, with an other half, 40-50 maybe.
Or £20 and a nice bottle of wine (bought with clubcard points or something perhaps to save a bit!)
Although, some people brought bottles of wine for us, and left them on the presents table, and some cheeky guests drunk it!! luckily it wasn't anything special, just jacob's creek, not champers or "laying down for your 10th anniversary" wine!

Yeah I have that sytem too and if I'm going all day I go for about 30 to 35 a head normally, plus a bit extra if someone closer!!! eg best friend or sister etc.
  • Im giving my cousin £50 next saturday, we are close and I'm her bridesmaid also its from me, my DH and our 2 girls but I'm afraid its all we can afford.
