Is it possible to earn money from Twitter?

I keep getting an e-mail telling me about this and I don't know if it is a scam or not. I even got a direct message on Twitter telling me about this... I think it's too good to be true:

Any website with "Hi I'm ...... and here's me with my <insert expensive sports car here> sitting outside my georgous house <photo of mansion> and I earn <six figure sum> every year from the Internet and I'll share my secret with you for a one-off fee of £/$xxx" is a scam.

I don't know what your particular Twitter thing is, but if you Google 'Twitter money making scam' you'll probably find it ;-)

The second link is a joke, the first link is funny.. but is there really a way of earning money from Twitter?
I heard that you can earn money from Youtube.... so it got me wondering if it possible to earn money from networking sites.

I doubt it. These things are usually a scam. Although as agent for a party planning company I have found twitter a really useful way of promoting my party plan work.

Perhaps there is a way....

You could always offer to set up and manage a twitter profile for local businesses?

Updating it regularly and making friends on it etc? You could design a custom background for it aswell!

And whilst your at it you could also manage their facebook & bebo profiles?

Yes, you can earn money from Twitter, but not by buying anybody's secret. You need to be a good Twitterer, with a good following - and there are ways you can then Twitter to your followers and convince them to buy stuff you point them at, or sell advertising space on your profile.

So it's not rocket science, but if you're asking the question then you're unlikely to either have, or be able to become, the sort of twitterer that picks up followers who hang on your every word and are following you in their hundreds/thousands.

But .... it's good to investigate what's out there, even if you do find out it's not what it seems.

Be a bit wary with some of the Direct Messages on Twitter as apparently a few people have had their accounts hacked by clicking on the links in them or replying to them.
