Taxi Cost - Edinburgh
Hi Everyone,
Could someone give me a rough idea of the cost of a taxi from Edinburgh airport to centre of Edinburgh (Novotel, Lauriston Place). Surprise w/end away for DH for his 40th in Jan and trying to work out a rough budget to save to!!!
Any help appreciated
Many thanks
Sam

I'd estimate £15-£18, Edinburgh taxis aren't the cheapest and the traffic can be slow at the moment with all the roadworks.
A cheaper alternative would be the 35 bus, goes from airport and down Lauriston Place, cost would be £1.20 each. Note, this is not the big blue Airlink bus, it is faster but doesn't go where you want to go and is much dearer!

The 35 is probably the cheapest but it is a bit slow into the town and a bit torturous in the west as it heads through Gogarburn and the Gyle then to get to the Calder Road then has to head in by Fountainbridge. Definately cheapest and if 45mins doesn't bother you, then it is the best. The airlink bus than a walk up Lothian Road might be better, only about 10mins.
Might be better looking at private hire which should be cheaper than airport cabs, but I'm not sure who is best in waiting time from the airport.0 -
About £18 I reckon. Got a cab from airport to centre of town about a week or so ago and it was around that amount. Bus might be a bit of a hassle particularly if you on a romantic weekend away. Have a nice time.:smileyhea0

The airlink buss is quite luxurious for a bus, very frequent, and because of bus lanes quite quick.
I would do as Flying scot says - get off at West End, and walk up Lothian Road, No more than 10 minutes and a pleasant walk. Edinburgh is a beautiful city to visit - have a lovely time.0 -
Thanks all very much for your replies.....if I budget enough for the taxi we can use that if it's raining etc. If it's not I think the bus might be cool as you get to see more!!!
