in Cutting tax
I am a UK citizen, my wife is a non Eu citizen (Central American), If My wife were to bring £200k (from the sale of a business)to the UK in order to buy a house here would she have to pay tax on this money or would the entire sum belong to her? If tax would have to be paid how can she avoid paying tax? Tax's on the sale will have been paid in her own country.
I am a UK citizen and have worked and paid all my taxes in the UK, My wife has worked in the UK and paid taxes for 8 years, However my wife has been out of the EU for over a year. Thank you

It's more likely she would face questions over money laundering than tax.Trying to keep it simple...0

questions over money laundering are not a problem, Just don't want to pay tax on her hard earned0

Your wife would pay UK tax on the arising basis in any case I suspect - unless she is paying the £30,000 charge plus tax on actual remittances, currency gain etc.0

cant she just transfer it to a uk bank account???0

Sent I't to me, I'll invest it for her!

jimmo - I was assuming she is not UK domiciled but has been UK resident for at least 7 of 9 years so may wish to pay the RBC or - alternatively - pay tax on the arising basis (subject to claims for double tax relief). This is a very different set of assumptions than yours that she is UK domiciled...0

Of course we can lie about anything, so under what circumstances will she avoid tax. Or how about if it were sent by a relative?0

If you lie or use subterfuge, then that is tax evasion which is a criminal act.0
