Insurance when BR - and experience?

I'm in the very early stages of going BR and noted a few references to insurance on a number of posts.

What problems do you face with insurance when you are BR (undischarged and afterwards?)

Cost? Can you get insurance? What happens if I live with my girlfriend in her house with her insurance, will I affect her insurance?

Any problems with specific types of insurance - House, Car, Travel, Life ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

It a mine field of if's and but's. Depends on the company, depends on what the individual tells the insurance company, depends what the company asks (i.e. is the owness for them to ask about BR? Is it for us to say? If we don't say if we're not asked will we be covered should we need to call on it?)

I have insurances now, basically stayed with the ones I already had, when I tried to change many of the companies would insure me but wanted premium paid for the year up front. I can say that my contents insurance doubled when we said BR, hate lloyds with a passion but have to stay with them as we can't yet afford a lump sum payment (something i'll be saving for anyway as the APR on my car insurance is 22.9% I just found out today.. I seem to be addicted to reading smallprint now)

Its always best to tell your insurer you are bankrupt so you know if they'll pay out for a claim if you need it. I had a claim a couple of years before my BR and remember being asked the question if anyone in my household has ever been bankrupt. Since the answer was no, I have no idea what they would have done had I said yes!
