Not read the whole thread, but this is very similar to what is happening to my friends son, it turned out her ds has adhd & autism, hence the lack of social skills in mixing with other kids. The thing is he is a wonderful boy when your one on one, so well spoken & articulate, it makes me so sad the other kids don't see that side of him
, btw this is an independent school, so no sen help at all.
has his mum spoken to the school?0 -

just thought l would update you all on the latest with my grandson, some of you have pmd me so l thought l would let everyone who showed us such wonderful support know how he is getting on, he started college this september and along with the usual subjects he is doing his favourite one art and design,
he is absolutely loving college its a small class room and everyone seems to get on so well, he said to his mum last week "its amazing everybody likes me and one boy actually asked me if he could sit next to me" bless, his art work is amazing and some of the students have asked him to draw pictures for them to take home with them and one wants him to do a sketch of her favourite popstar,
the teacher is very impressed with his work and says he is a dark horse, he's taking part in a charity event this month where he will have to dress up as his favourite character for the local hospice, that would have been impossible for him before, l can't tell you how proud we all are of him, he has come so far from the boy who wanted to end his life to actually having a reason to get up in the morning, its wonderful to see
The bullies could have broken him but instead hes picked himself up, shook the dust off his feet and found his own path after all, lm so so proud x
That's fantastic! Your OP broke my heart, the poor kid i know exactly how he feels having been bullied at school. I'm so happy that he's finally happy and doing well. College is just the start, and it's great that he's gone. I dont doubt he will go on to bigger and better things0 -

I strongly disagree. My friend home schooled her son for several years because of ongoing bullying. He had a very busy social life when homeschooled.
He's now won a full scholarship to one of the country's top private schools, and last year was awarded at prizegiving day a prize for "Doing the most to help the community".
Homeschooling helped him regain his confidence and has given him skills in dealing with disparate age groups.0 -

l totally agree with you, for one thing my dg had no peers to be detached from so how does that work:mad:, if we had left him in that enviroment it would have done more harm than good and l dread to think what the outcome would have been, no child should be left to suffer the way my dg was suffering both physically and mentally and the way he has come out of this ordeal in the end is a credit to him it could so easily have gone the other way0 -

I agree with all that. Not all children in this situation are lucky enough to have an adult stand up to the system, to say "This is NOT working for THIS child", and be willing to take all the rubbish that the system and sheep in the general population throw at them for having the temerity to say that one size does not fit all.
Kudos to you for not giving in to pressure to conform, to sacrifice the child and its future just so that the system sheep can sleep easy at night, reassuring themselves that Big Brother is perfect for all and will look after them in all eventualities.0 -
Thanks for the update reeree - you give all the credit to your grandson, but, its YOU who should get the lions share of it! I know just how hard you had to push to get his parents to agree to take him out of school, and how anxious you were about your own ability to 'school' him properly. Well, all your fears were unfounded and you did a fantastic job!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done reeree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
