Advice about curling hair for wedding tomorrow!

I'm chief bridesmaid for my sister tomorrow and going to use heated rollers to curl my hair in an effort to look "nice" :D

Now, my hair is humongously thick (I cannot emphasise how thick and heavy it is!), long and naturally curly anyway (I usually straighten it.) Last time I used said curlers I washed and blow-dried my hair then left curlers in, but they didn't take at all (left them on aaages!) and the tiny bit of wave I did get dropped out after half an hour!

So need advice on best way to do it... Wash, dry, hairspray and curlers in, curlers out and more hairspray?!:D Won't it go frizzy if I haven't straightened it though? Can I reasonably wash and dry it tonight then curl it in the morning or is that crazy (thinking of doing as much as I can in advance of the morning?)

ANY advice welcomed - I just want everything to be right!

    I've been Money Tipped!
TBH, I would go to a hairdressor if you are unsure and its so important. I would have suggested differently if you had had a few home attempts you were happy with.

If you do it at home I think the right products are important. For me they would include fri ease serum, some sort of smoothing produt designed for curly hair that is being styled, not allowed to dry naturally into curls, then a hairspray for fri fighting, and then a product I find useful in a handbag is called Gleame Creme (its john Frieda's sheer blonde range). It smooths and softens any occuring frizz as the day goes on, but I'm sure there are many other products in other ranges that do the same thing. I'm pretty sure there is a Tigi one, but can't remember what its called.

I'm afraid, my experience is curly hair, whatever you do with it, needs lots of ''product''.
  • mouse would help too lol

Why dont u use your hair straighteners to do curls?

Might take a bit better but will require a lil bit of practise tonight!

I have very heavy, thick, wavy hear with a lot of frizz, and tbh I have tried lot's of things to make my hair stay curly, but they do drop out through the day.

The best results I had was when I washed, dried and straightened my hair using serum afterwards to fight frizz, then used the straighteners (or curling tongs) to make some individual curls and hairsprayed those. Maybe if you clip the individual curls up it would take some of the weight off them and they would stay in longer.

At least this way if they drop out, your hair is still fairly straight, tidy and frizz free iyswim.

    Have an amazing day!!

    Another vote for the hairdresser.

My hair is also incredibly thick and heavy and any curl I put in it tends to drop straight out under its own weight. Even professional styling only lasts a few hours.

I had it put up in a french pleat for a very posh "do" once. I spent the whole evening pushing the pins back and even then I know I did lose some. When I took it down I counted over 60 hairpins....

Well my sister has given me free rein with my hair... Basically I am allowed to do whatever I want as long as I look presentable!

I usually wear it down and all straightened out, it is as I said really thick and heavy and although naturally curly, I rarely if ever wear it like this because it is a sight to behold - massive hair like you've never seen and oh boy the frizz!:D

I wanted to do something different with it, but I really couldn't afford the hairdressers thus the plan to do it myself. So it doesn't *have* to be curled - and from the feedback I'm thinking I may just straighten it out - or even the other thought I had was to essentially 'smooth' my hair with the straighteners which will keep a little of the natural wave but eliminate the frizz, by just running the straighteners over rather than giving each section three or four goes with the straighteners.

Amanita I wouldn't even think of wearing my hair up because I'd be exactly the same LOL! Plus my mum has said I should wear it down so said I would :)

  • You need some kind of styling product like a setting lotion before the rollers go in your hair and then dry it artifically so the curls hold. Remember smaller rollers = tighter curls. Don't brush your hair afterwards, just run your fingers through it. Then spray with a really firm hold hairspray.

    Setting lotion:

Another vote for the hairdresser - the old ladies type will set your hair better than anyone else - trust me, I'm hopeless at doing my hair for anything special too.

Or get the bride's hairdresser to come half an hour early and put your rollers in for you!;)

    Have a great day!

ps Freshly washed hair isn't so good to style, so unless you have really greasy hair wash it tonight and the style will take better tomorrow.

    Don't know why this is...
