Chief bridesmaid for my sis on Friday - any pointers?

Hi all!

So I'm chief bridesmaid for my sister's wedding on Friday. My main responsibility is to sort out my two DDs who are little bridesmaidy flowery girls:D

Sis hasn't expected much from me as have had hands full with baby and didn't want to commit to doing things if I wouldn't end up having time so I've helped out where I can here and there, been to see her trying on dresses and her final dress fitting, got DDs' shoes (gorgeous!) and chased up guests.

So what I wanted to know from you guys is - as I am in no way that knowledgeable about weddings! - what should I be up there doing without her needing to ask?

The other bridesmaid is helping with getting her into her dress as that'll be before I arrive at her house, but from then apart from having DDs ready, what shall I be ready for?

Also is there anything me and other bridesmaid can do as a surprise?

And also will I have to dance with the best man - I've been silently dreading that bit if I do as am a rubbish dancer!:o:D

I have never seen the chief bridesmaid dance with the best man at any of the weddings i have been to.

I would guess your sister has it covered and wont ask you to do anything that hasnt already been discussed with you beforehand.

Your main duty if i remeber right is to look after the flower girls, make sure they are where they are needed to be for photo's etc. And to hold the brides bouquet in the church when she passes it to you. Help sort her veil out if it starts to get twisted and fluff out her dress if it needs it.

I always think its a great idea to take a sewing kit and some safety pins just incase theres a last minute dress emergency.

I helped my friend get her bridesmaids dressed and one of the straps decided to unstitch itself - so as she's having her hair done im sat in a corner sewing it back together - and i hadnt sewn since i was at school. We wouldnt have had time to go on the hunt for a needle and thread.
:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!

    Hi

I was Chief Bridesmaid for my sister. I ran round on the day getting the flowers for the mothers, running errands, collecting our cousin who was doing the makeup, etc.
At the ceremony I took the bouquet when she reached the alter. I also helped organise the people needed for the photos as they kept walking off.
I kept a few things my sister might need in my purse. Headache tablets, lip gloss, etc. Be observant for anything she needs and make sure she looks good at all times. I also helped my sister when she needed to go to the ladies. It's not the first time I've had to help hold the skirt while a bride tinkles. :rotfl:
I also had to join the couple on the dance floor with the best man a couple of minutes into their first dance. I was so embarassed as it was the grooms dad! I'd only met him once before and I was half a foot taller than him!
Being Chief Bridesmaid is not as relaxing as being a guest at a wedding but it's a nice thing to do well for the bride.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Practical things - you'll need to carry stuff with you as princesswoo and Kynthia mention, so if you haven't got one, try and find a suitable bag. Also recruit your OH or somebody else to hold it whilst you're called up for photos. Stuff includes lipstick, paracetamol, hairbrush, spare hair grips, any other essential make up items, tissues (for tears!), emergency stuff for the dress like safety pins,
You'll also probably be responsible for making her dress (especially if there's a train) look good in the photos.

I was a CB on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it - I'm sure you will too :-)

    I'm so ridiculously excited LOL!

Just going to organise my 'emergency kit' in a little while, trying to think of anything else I might need!

lol, i told my Chiefy she had 2 jobs, make sure my train was ok and help me with my dress when I went to the toilet! lol.

She helped me get into my dress (which I know you dont need to worry about), her and my sister helped me put my shoes on, She sorted my train out, as we were waiting she got me a water, she carried my lipstick, perfume and mini hairspray in her bag and helped me with my dress in the toilets and she made sure my dress was ok for all the photos.

Hope this helps and I hope you both have a lovely day :D

Put a small pot of johnsons baby powder in your kit too - its good for drawing out stains when something gets spilled on the dress.

Holding the dress up whilst she has a tinkle - sometimes that's what we planners have to do:eek:

You sound like you will be doing enough just by being there and helping with whatever she asks you to :) I wish my sister had been so useful at my wedding

Just wanted to come back after the wedding and say thanks for the pointers!

The big day for my sis was yesterday, the day was fabulous, she looked gorgeous and have seen an online preview of the pics already and she is incredibly photogenic - the photos are just great!

I helped out where I could, bits such as holding her dress in the lift, a lot of smoothing out of her veil for pictures, keeping her hair in check and lots of reassuring that she looked great!

I also did some rounding up of people for photos and ushered my DDs - who were little bridesmaids - around and made them look pretty for photos :)

Really pleased for her and my new brother-in-law!
