Help needed! Wilton Pooh Cake

Hi, looking for some ideas.
I have bought a Wilton 'Pooh' cake tin to make my daughter's birthday cake. I have used the recipe I use to make cupcakes x 3, which seemed to turn out reasonably taste wise.
However, the cake stuck to the pan and was a complete disaster. I am looking for advice and inspiration from those of you out there who make fab cakes! How do you stop it sticking (I have just ordered Wilton cake release to try that) and whar cake recipe would you go for?

..... oh and how do you store a iced birthday cake before the party?

How do you stop it sticking - with exactly what you've ordered, it's fabulous stuff
how long are you storing it for and what kind of icing?Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
48 down, 22 to go
Low carb, low oxalate Primal + dairy
From size 24 to 16 and now stuck...0 -
the cake release stuff is great but I find that with a sponge or madeira, a little melted butter brushed well into grooves in tin works too.
Have you got a plastic container large enough? what icing are you using? I have frozen madeira and buttercream filled sponges (but haven't tried top iced ones) - they don't take much defrosting.0 -
hi cake release is the only stuff for wilton tins.
i would store your cake by cutting it up, wrap in foil, and keep in tin, should be good for 3-4 days. do not freeze icing on a cake, it will make it soggy as it thaws0 -

must admit, haven't used Wilton tins, never heard of them until now.
buttercream icing is ok though0 -
Oh good, it is a relief to know the cake release stuff does work. I used melted butter brushed all over the tin today and it really stuck solid regardless *sighs*
I am going to pipe buttercream icing onto the top. I am fine for storing it once cut up but don't get how to store it once I have iced it for the party. I have a one use cake board to sit it on.
Thanks so much for all the input. This cake making is scary stuff!!

is it sponge? can you freeze it uniced then ice it on the day?
One thing though, if you freeze buttercream icing, you need to be careful if you are using dark or bright food colouring & combining it with a light coloured one, as this can run into other icing sometimes.0 -
I suppose I could. However, I am new to the cake icing business (although I pipe ice pretty cool cupcakes already) and am a bit worried about the pressure of doing it on the day. My mum is off the day before and can help me, so I would prefer to do it in its entirity the day before.
