Courses on making things

I recently went on a tiara making day at Monkton Elm Garden Centre near Taunton it is near me and was in a bridal magazine. They were very helpful and it cost £25 but this included a tiara base and beads, wire etc I am now finishing making my own tiara (one Bride finished hers and it was lovely mine is a little more complicated!!)and will sew a few of the matching beads on my dress. I took one of my Bridesmaids along so she is doing her own and I will do the other 3 hopefully with her help. It means I have the tiarra I want at a fraction of the price and have learnt a new skill. I wondered if there is a good place to look for courses as I fancy making my own cupcakes but would like to be shown how to decorate them. The Paper Shop have a wedding coordinator who will show you wedding card making for free as they obviously hope you buy the stuff for them ! There is one in Clarkes Village Street Somerset and they were very helpful.

Try a catering college or cookery school if you want to learn how to make cakes and ice them. Cupcakes are fairly easy anyway - just use a sponge mixture and as for icing - butter icing blobbed on the top with a pallet knife does the trick.

Also try looking at your local craft centres as they too may offer courses. I know of one that offers millinery (Fridays only) and one of the shops within the craft centre has certain nights where they will show you how to make chocolate truffles.
  • Thank you I hadn't thought of looking at local colleges I wonder if they do one day learning to tie bouquet courses too. I have looked in books but being very dyspraxic often need to see it done first. Thanks again.
