My friend took me out last night for a few diet cokes which was lovely. She listened to me go on about how i am hoping to be a little straighter finance wise by september butt hat i have learnt a very hard lesson and that i cant wait til i am completely debt free.
We had a lovely catch up about what else has been going on in our lives and then we came back to mine for a cuppa.
Anyway, I've just got up and made myself a coffee and there's a fiver on the worktop. Now I know i never put it there as I dont have a fiver in my purse at the moment so she must have left it there.
What do i do? I feel terrible...... I can't just ignore it but how do i say thanks? I really dont want to take it from her as i dont want to feel like a charity case....although that fiver will buy my food for a whole week.....
what do i do?

Make her a card out of bits that are lying around the house (a bit of imagination and it'll look fab) and write something in it like "Thank you for your kind gesture, true friends are worth a million" then keep the fiver qas it was given with a good heart. However, I'd only accept it this time, and if she tries to offer it again I would politely and firmly refuse it.0

You could keep a mental note - and when you become debt free you could pay her back or take her out or something? What a lovely gesture by your friend - brings a tear to the eye! Am such an emotional little thing!"Debt makes plans for you" - A quote from my friend Catherine. How true!0

lovely
I think a card should do the trick, or maybe, If you can, save that fiver for a birthday present for her, if you usually buy her a prezzie... Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Accept it graciously, she obviously wants you to have it. I think she got it right, a small amount that will make a huge diff to you but not so large to make you feel really uncomfortable. The card idea is great.
You can be there for her in other ways either now or in the future, the wheel will turn (remember 2 little boys!) You are very lucky; I have some fab friends who money just could not buy, but you must be a fab friend too!!0 -
I think go with what the others have said and accept it for this time only. It is not an embarrassing amount of money like £50. A home made card is a good idea too to say thanks and maybe an i o u for a favour in return [maybe babysit or tidy her garden, wash & clean out her car]. Make sure she knows that the listening ear and her friendship counts for it all. If that makes sense [I'm !!!!!! at slushy stuff].0

I used to get very imbarrassed(?) when a retired worker at my place of work used to get me to order things on the net for him (with his card) then he would ALWAYS drop a tenner on my table. Eventually I gave in arguing and graciously accepted! I am now well aware (as I was then) that he financial is FAR better off than I am, and he just uses this as a thank you for your help.
Some people don't see money in the same way as others, but either way, you can accept it with thanks.0 -
Well the card idea is great. However i am crap at things like that and it would end up just a mess with lumps of pritt stick on the front lol..
I called her up this morning and she said she definitely didnt leave a fiver on the side and that it must have been the money fairy so to enjoy it and treat myself to a paper at the weekend and some dinner more substantial than 12p noodles lol
Bless her xxxxLast bet : 26th Oct 2006:j Debt free 25th Feb 2008:j Living "my" dream:T0
