Son gone back to college - tax rebate?

My 18 year old son has given up work to go back into education to studying A levels. He has paid tax this year (about £400). He now has no earnings how does he get a tax rebate? Should he write to the local tax office and send a copy of his P45?

No, he downloads form P50 from www.hmrc.gov.uk and sends it with parts 2 and 3 of his P45 to his tax office.

You should also write a covering letter explaining that he will not be working.

If he is going to be working, even if partime, its best if he waits until end of the tax year.

Thanks I've downloaded the P50 for him to complete and send back with the parts of his P45.

He's received a cheque today for the amount he's paid. This has only taken a week I'm very impressed.
